Goshen Gets Punched

by Erin Bontrager

“They punched us in the face and we took it,” said coach Gary Chupp after a miserable loss for the Goshen Maple leafs on Tuesday night. “In basketball you are going to have nights like this...” The Goshen Maple leafs had a shocking loss verses the Bethel pilots.

The game started by both teams coming out with lots of energy. Both teams came out, carrying much aggression for the ball. “We had a lot of players contribute on offense. Everybody that played scored.” As the buzzer rang at the end of the first half, the score showed how intense the game was. The score was, 34-35 with the Pilots ahead by one point. Goshen was running out of steam.

When both teams started warming up for the second half, they looked rested, ready to play another competitive half. As it was soon obvious, one team was rested, the other was not. Shot after shot, Bethel sank while Goshen couldn’t hit any of their shots. After about 8 minutes, the run was 19-2. Finally, the run ended and the game continued. The final buzzer rang and the ending score was 54-70.

“One of the things we have got to learn is how to manufacture energy on nights when we arre not shooting well. Good teams learn how to do that. We will show the players the film from the start of the second half and hopefully they will figure it out,” quoted by Gary Chupp, the GC coach. The loss was shocking, but one team had to win. The way that Goshen got punched, was shocking.
