Bethel Beats Goshen to First Conference Win

by Lena Yeakey

Arch-rivals Goshen and Bethel battled for victory last night, both vying for their first win in their conference. Bethel won 70-54 after Goshen crumbled in the second half. Goshen came into the game after winning twice over Christmas Break, probably feeling fairly good. Bethel came with a 10-7 record, having won the last game. These two teams are long-time rivals, with each game well-attended, and awash in blue and purple. Many people come out just once a year, for this game.

The beginning of the game started out looking good for Goshen. Dunks, 3-pointers, and lay-ups galore quickly populated the scoreboard. Bethel was not without score, though. They had Goshen by the tail for the first 20 minutes, and then, after halftime, went on a 19-point run, well on their way to double-digit victory.

Bethel was pushing Goshen to the three point line the whole 2nd half. Before the intermission, Goshen had been making tons of layups, but afterwards, Bethel’s defense allowed no room for close shots. It looked close, but then Bethel dominated, and many Goshen fans were unhappy with their team’s performance.
